Roadworks on Naseby Street/Merivale Lane

There are currently roadworks outside our practice which make the route along Merivale Lane, from Rossal Street to Naseby Street unusable.  Instead, we recommend our patients drive along Merivale Lane from either Papanui Road or Winchester Street and then turn right into Naseby Street and into our clinic at No 5 Naseby Street instead.  There is a sign at the end of Naseby Street saying "Road Closed" but it is open for use by our patients. Our off street parking is still available for our patients as usual.  We apologise for any inconvenience.

Mr Kenton-Smith attends American Society of Plastic Surgeons conference - New York

Jesse recently attended "The Cutting Edge" conference held at The Waldorf Hotel, New York.  The very latest research, techniques and ideas were presented over a very intensive three days of lectures.  These lectures generally ran between 7:30am and 9pm every day and included a lot of discussion on the use of fat transfer/injections in all areas of cosmetic plastic surgery practice.  Mr Kenton-Smith already uses fat transfer/injections extensively in his practice and enjoyed meeting and listening to world leaders in this field.

Dr Mary Irvine attends Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Injectables Conference - Sydney

Dr Irvine attended this rarely held conference where she was able to attend lectures held by World leaders in injectables.  Only plastic and reconstructive surgeons and their injectables staff were able to attend the conference. The subject matter was specifically tailored to the use of injectables in plastic surgery clinics, where high levels of skill and aesthetics are naturally found.  The quality and experience of the speakers was very high and Mary found the conference very supportive of her injectables work.

Dr Mary Irvine G.P and Trained Injector of Botox and Cosmetic Fillers

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Mary Irvine will be starting clinics at 5 Naseby Street on 23 July 2011.  Mary is a practicing G.P. with a special interest in injectables.  Dr. Irvine is a trained injector of Juvederm, Restylane and Botox.  Mary is warm and friendly with a great aesthetic sense.

It costs $50 for a consultation with Dr. Irvine to discuss your aesthetic issues.  This fee is incorporated into the treatment charge if you decide to go ahead or, it can be offset against a future treatment booking if you would like time to think about which treatment you would like.

We believe we are the only clinic in New Zealand to have a doctor injector who is overseen by a plastic surgeon.  We believe that the expertise of Mr Kenton-Smith and Dr. Mary Irvine combined will result in the best possible results for our patients.

Christchurch Earthquake Update

We are deeply saddened by the recent Christchurch earthquake and all the destruction it caused.

We feel very fortunate that our practice premises, at 5 Naseby Street, fared well and we able to function as normal. Both Southern Cross and St Georges Hospitals are operating as normal too.

Our thoughts are with all our patients and their families during these very difficult times.

Off Street Car Parking

We are delighted to announce that we have almost completed our new car park work and our patients will be able to park in one of our six spaces from Friday 18 February.

5 Naseby Street has been a plastic surgical centre for over 30 years now and the plantings and character of the front garden reflected that with its privacy and large magnolia tree.  In recent years, the parking had become quite difficult and we reached the point where we wanted to supply better parking for our patients.  We tried hard to maintain the privacy of the clinic whilst making room for our patients to park.  We are pleased with the result and our patients have already been remarking on how much better it will be to park so easily.

Botox Approved for treatment of Chronic Migraine

October 16, 2010 — The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved onabotulinumtoxinA (Botox; Allergan Inc) for headache prophylaxis in patients with adult chronic migraine who suffer headaches on 15 or more days per month, each lasting more than 4 hours.

"Chronic migraine is one of the most disabling forms of headache," said Russell Katz, MD, director of the Division of Neurology Products in the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, in a statement. "Patients with chronic migraine experience a headache more than 14 days of the month. This condition can greatly affect family, work, and social life, so it is important to have a variety of effective treatment options available."

To treat chronic migraine, onabotulinumtoxinA is given approximately every 12 weeks as multiple injections around the head and neck "to try to dull future headache symptoms," the FDA statement notes. It has not been shown to work for the treatment of episodic migraine headaches that occur 14 days or fewer per month, or for other forms of headache, it adds.

The Canterbury Earthquake

We are saddened to see the damage Christchurch has suffered during the recent earthquakes. Our clinic has swayed through the quakes with only cracks in the chimneys to show the forces acting upon them.  The two brick chimneys have now been removed to prevent further damage. Our building is safe and our clinics and operations are running as normal. We send all our patients our best wishes during these stressful times.

LATISSE - The Solution for Inadequate Eyelashes Now Available

There’s been a growing interest in this product ever since it was introduced in the USA in 2008.  LATISSE® is the only FDA-approved prescription treatment for inadequate or not enough eyelashes, growing them longer, fuller and darker.

Discover LATISSE difference: LATISSE solution is an actual growth treatment. It’s the only FDA-approved treatment clinically proven to grow lashes and it’s the only lash growth product of its kind available by prescription. So you’ll need to talk to your doctor to see if it’s right for you.

LATISSE grows lashes longer, fuller and darker: LATISSE solution is a once-a-day treatment you apply topically to the base of your upper eyelashes, as instructed by your doctor. Then, gradually, the results come in. You may start to see more length in as little as 4 weeks and you should achieve full growth in 16 weeks.
How LATISSE works: LATISSE makes lash growth possible because of its active ingredient: bimatoprost. Although the precise mechanism of action is unknown, LATISSE is believed to affect the growth (anagen) phase of the eyelash hair cycle in two ways: first, it increases the length of this phase, and second, it increases the number of hairs in this growth phase.
The history behind LATISSE: Although LATISSE is a treatment for inadequate or not enough eyelashes, it was developed through years of research by Allergan, a pharmaceutical leader with expertise in eye care products

LATISSE before and after gallery: Go to www.latisse.com for more information

How much does LATISSE Cost?  $300 for a 60 day supply of Latisse and disposable applicators
